Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam received the high level Delegation of the UPU

At the meeting, Director General of the UPU International Bureau highly appreciated the interest and favourable condition created by Vietnam Government for Vietnam postal sector – one of the important infrastructures and connection within the supply chain of the whole economy, and realized the strong and effective development of Vietnam Post recently. The UPU Delegation updated and reported to the Leader of Vietnam Government on the development situation of the global postal sector; advantages and disadvantages of the industry before the trend of E-commerce explosion, decreasing letters volume; electronic exchange method progressively replaces physical exchange method. In order to control the market, before the very intense competition of global express delivery companies, postal designated operators and the UPU itself have to reform comprehensively to improve the service quality, apply technologies and fulfill customer’s increasing demand.

Sharing with the Deputy Prime Minister about hot issues which will be considered by the UPU during the UPU Extraordinary Congress held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in September 2018 namely, UPU reform, reform of member countries’ class contribution system, integrated production plan (IPP), integrated return system plan (IRP) and stabilization of beneficial Fund, Director General of the UPU International Bureau expected to receive the support from Vietnam Government as an official member of the UPU and an active member of the UPU Council of Administration (CA-UPU) for the period of 2017-2020 regarding these important issues.

Highly appreciated the effort made by the UPU to always complete and reform its mechanism, organization to be more flexible and effective in the intense competitive environment, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam assumed that the reform, innovation are always a difficult, sensitive issue and it is needed to be carried out step by step and with synchrony. Vietnam Government recognized the UPU’s recommendation and it would actively take the issue into consideration at the coming Extraordinary Congress held in Ethiopia. He wished the UPU a successful Congress and reach considerable agreements. At the same time, on this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister proposed the UPU to pay attention to technical assistance projects which the UPU would grant Vietnam in the coming time such as financial inclusion project, operation readiness for E-commerce project (ORE)…        

Before the meeting, at the same day, the high level Delegation of the UPU had had a meeting with Minister Truong Minh Tuan, visited the Head Office building of Vietnam Post and spoke with the entire officers and employees of Vietnam Post in Hanoi.
