According to the statistics of the World Health Organization, there are about 7 million deaths each year caused by tobacco-related diseases, including nearly 900,000 deaths caused by passive smoking. Base on the global investigation on smoking in 2016, Vietnam is among the 15 countries with the highest smoking rate of adult men in the world. On average, there is 1 smoker per every 2 adult men. Each year in Vietnam, there are about 40,000 deaths caused by tobacco-related diseases, including many dangerous diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive lung disease, etc., currently considered as the leading cause of death in Vietnam.
