Special issue of the stamp set “Tobacco harm control and prevention”


H.E. Deputy Minister of the MIC Nguyen Minh Hong and the representatives of the MOH, World Health Organization implemented the protocol of signing, sealing on the stamp set

The stamp set “Tobacco harm control and prevention” includes 01 sample, face value of VND 3,000. The stamp set was non-edge-to-edge designed with a contrary image comparing between two lungs of healthy non-smokers and smokers or passive smoke exposure persons; attached with a message of “No smoking for the sake of your health and beloved ones”.    

With a tight layout, highly generalized together with a typical painting language and tone values, the stamp sample is not only a reminder reminding the community to quit and resolutely say no to smoking for the health’s sake of your own, your family and people around you, contributing to the reduction of suffering rate and mortality rate from tobacco-related diseases; but also a media message contributing to raising awareness of the community to together build a beautiful life without tobacco’s smoke.

The stamp set “Tobacco harm control and prevention” was designed by painter Pham Trung Ha (Vietnam Post).

Speaking at the special issue Ceremony of the stamps et "Tobacco harm control and prevention", H.E. Deputy Minister of the MIC Nguyen Minh Hong emphasized that with creativity and innovation, the artist showed two contrary pictures: the right side generates the harm of tobacco on people’s health and the surrounding environment with the message of  "No smoking for the sake of your health and beloved ones", the left side represents the beautiful life of healthy people, living happily inside their dream green house.

H.E. Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong added that with its own language, implying meaningful and informative ideas, this small stamp set will be a multi-dimensional message contributing practically to the implementation of the "National Strategy on tobacco harm prevention up to 2020" of the Government and the Law on tobacco harm prevention in 2012.

According to the statistics of the World Health Organization, there are about 7 million deaths each year caused by tobacco-related diseases, including nearly 900,000 deaths caused by passive smoking. Vietnam is among the 15 countries with the highest smoking rate of adult men in the world. On average, there is 1 smoker per every 2 adult men. Each year in Vietnam, there are about 40,000 deaths caused by tobacco-related diseases, including many dangerous diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive lung disease, etc., currently considered as the leading cause of death in Vietnam.
