The debut of Saola stamp set

 

Sao Las live in thick forest, mainly near the streams at an altitude of 200 – 600 meters above sea level across the Annamite Range and Laos. It is discovered by the scientist in 1992. Sao La is ranked at Emergency level (species most at threat of extinction in nature) in the Red book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) and in the Red book of Vietnam. Vietnamese Government and authorities at all levels have coordinated with World Wild Fund (WWF) to survey, research and conduct many specific and effective activities in order to propagandize and protect Saola and other valuable and rare animals.

Contributing to the propaganda and protecting activities for wild and rare animals, Vietnam Post coordinated with World Wild Fund (WWF) to issue a stamp set featuring these valuable and rare animals. The Saola stamp set (code 827) issued on 18th May 2000 including 04 samples with an 08 printed stamps block and WWF logo introducing the image of Saola in natural environment. The stamp set was designed by artist Vo Luong Nhi – Vietnam Post.
