General Vo Nguyen Giap’s biography and career – after highlighted the process of striving forward, training, fulfilling qualification, taking part in the Revolution then becoming a military commander and politician, being the very first General, Commander in Chief of Vietnam People’s Army, being one of the contributors to found the Democratic Republic of Vietnam; his name was attached to operations, victories in Indochina War against the French colonial Empire, Resistance War against American, unifying the Country (1960-1975), the Border War between Vietnam – China (1979) – the Minister of the Ministry of Information and Communication Truong Minh Tuan emphasised: the Communist Party, the State and People highly appreciated the services of General Vo Nguyen Giap. Generations of officers, soldiers of the Army honoured General as the Big Brother of Vietnam People’s Army. With such great contributions, particularlly to the career of the Revolution, General Giap was award the medal of Golden Star, 02 medals of Ho Chi Minh, Badget of 70 years old in Party and many other Vietnam and international badgets and medals. His tireless strive for the career of the Revolution, for the struggle for liberation of the Country was always the brightest sample for compatriot, comrade, officer, soldier in the entire country to respect, love, study and follow. His name and noble Revolutionary career was eternally engraved for the next generations with many streets and roads across Vietnam holding his name. General’s name would live forever with Vietnamese People. He had lived and spent his whole life striving for the Communist ideal, for the Freedom of the Nation and the Happiness of Vietnamese People…

At the Ceremony, on behalf of the Communist Party, the State and the Army, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc completed the protocol to sign in the issuance of the stampset “General Vo Nguyen Giap (1911-2013)”.

The stampset inincluded 01 sample and 01 block of stamp designed by artist Nguyen Du (Vietnam Post). By realistic painting style, the artist portrayed General Vo Nguyen Giap in simple, close army clothing, but it resounded with the mettle of an unyielding communist soldier, a prominent military political leader, a General with profound stratergic view. The background of the sample was the image of the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu, one of the glorious peaks, an honourable exploit of Ho Chi Minh era.

The stamp block was designed in wide frame, with the portrait of General presented as central image. The baground of the block was painted with the image of Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army – the precursor of Vietnam People’s Army.

Right after the protocol of special issuance of the stampset “General Vo Nguyen Giap (1911-2013)”, it would be introduced to customer and people who love Stamp, collect Stamp at the Post Offices of Vietnam Post nationwide.

This is the third time for Vietnam Post to depict and introduce the image of General Vo Nguyen Giap on Postage Stamp.

In the first time, the stampset of 30^th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory was issued on 07^th May 1984 including 07 samples and 01 block, designed by artist Huy Toan. In which, the sample number 1485 and stamp block introduced the “Campaign headquarters” with the image of General Vo Nguyen Giap standing at the right hand side of Uncle Ho.

In the second time, the stampset of 50^th Anniversary of Vietnam People’s Army was issued on 22^nd December 1994 including 04 samples, designed by artist Hoang Thuy Lieu. In which, the sample number 2644 introduced the image of Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army with the image of comrade Vo Nguyen Giap as the commander carrying a handgun and standing in front of soldiers formation.

By specially issuing the stampset “General Vo Nguyen Giap (1911-2013)” on the birthday and in the motherland of General, one more time it expressed the respect, gratitude of the entire Communist Party, Vietnamese People and Army for the service, contribution, sacrifice and talent of General – the outstanding student of President Ho Chi Minh. The postage stampset was a multidimentional message, implying various meanings. It would introduce to the people nationwide, international friends and Vietnamese Community oversea to understand more about the life and career of General Vo Nguyen Giap as well as the history of defending and building Vietnam Country.
